Recruiting runs across four years of high school, and each year has a short list of things that actually move you forward. The NCAA counts you as a prospective student-athlete the day you start ninth-grade classes, so the academic record that decides your eligibility is already being written before a college coach has watched a single snap of your film.

These guides walk the calendar one grade at a time. Freshman and sophomore year go to grades and the first highlight film. That's also when the target list of schools you'll actually write to gets built. Junior year is when the Division I recruiting calendar starts to govern what a coach can do and when, and when camps and visits turn interest into an offer.
